Chapter 1
What is "Effective Living"?

Effecting Living is a lifestyle focused on improving our mental and physical wellbeing.  A balanced approach to increasing joy and satisfaction in the present moment while we put forth a portion of our efforts to invest in the future. Making a conscious effort to form and maintain positive habits.  Recognizing and avoiding unproductive and thoughts and behavior.  Chapter 1 provides a more detailed explanation.

Chapter 4
The Mind

This chapter examines the basic concepts for how the mind operates.  Knowledge of mental processing opens up a new path to self-understanding.  There will be discussions and exercises for retraining our conscious and sub conscious mind to increase productivity and contentment.

Chapter 7
Inferiority

Everybody experiences episodes of humiliation, guilt, shame and regret.  Many people realize that these events are common to everyone and just part of life. When we subconsciously believe that these emotionally painful events signify who we are, we begin to believe that we are of lower human value than others (inferior).  Almost everybody can be affected by this at one time or another. This chapter offers cognitive behavioral ideas that help us look at ourselves positively.  It is designed to provide an understanding of how inferiority is formed and how we can limit debilitating effects.

Chapter 10
Emotional IQ

The quality of our emotional responses and the way we react to them may be the most important factors that determine our ability to do, be or have the things that are good for us.

Chapter 2
The Brain

This chapter describes how the human brain works using simplified terms and concepts.  It provides an explanation of functions from the miraculous feats to its frustrating faults.  More importantly, the chapter covers the preliminary information for improving our brains performance.

Chapter 5
Reality and Perception

This chapter reveals counter-intuitive aspects of mental operations. It provides a deeper look into the brain and mind. Perception is our personal reality. “We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are” – Anais Nin.

Chapter 8
Ego Defense

The subconscious mind’s attempt to protect from feeling threatened by a humiliating event that is beyond our ability to cope. Ego defense can be form of self-delusion that distorts cause and effect. As we build confidence and insight, ego defense decreases.

Chapter 11
Change

This chapter explains why we aren’t comfortable with change.  There is a lot of information and ideas that can help us make the changes that can improve our lives.  We can also reduce the anxiety associated with change. 

Chapter 3
Emotions

Chapter three is a deep explanation of how our emotional system operates. When we understand how and why our feelings are created, we become more able to understand ourselves. Emotions will become more of an asset than a liability.

Chapter 6
Fear of Failure

The information in this chapter will reduce or eliminate this fear and may change the meaning of the word “failure”.

Chapter 9
The Path of Least Resistance

“The majority of our long-term pain is caused by the avoidance of short-term pain”.  Often our attempts to minimize the effort we put forth, forces us to expend much more time and energy than we originally thought we were going to save.  This chapter helps us identify practices that waste our time and energy for no benefit.  Eliminating time wasting behavior can free up more time and energy for creating a fulfillment.

Chapter 12
Motivation

instilling a sense of self-empowerment (the will to move forward) will be an ongoing process throughout each session of the program. The chapter on motivation will consolidate ideas that have been presented throughout the program.
